Family Medicine Residency
What is a Family Medicine?
Family Medicine is the only medical specialty that provides comprehensive medical care regardless of age, sex or the nature of the illness. It is unique in that it is concerned with the family as a unit and how family interactions affect health. We provide high quality care for the whole family.
Our Family Physicians are trained in Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Office Surgery, Behavioral Health and Sex and Family Counseling.
What is the Family Health Center?
We care for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Family Health Center is a primary care center of MedStar Health, a non profit community-based health system serving the Baltimore/Washington region. The Family Health Center supports a Family Medicine Residency program. The program was founded in 1970 and is one of the first Family Medicine Residency programs in the country.
What is a residency program?
A residency program trains new doctors to become family physicians. Doctors in training are called interns and residents. The training requires them to demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, excellent medical knowledge and care of their patients. A teaching physician called an "attending physician" will discuss office visits with the resident and review all of the documentation. Often the attending will come into the room and see you as well
