About Franklin Square

Franklin Square Hospital Center is located in White Marsh in eastern Baltimore County. We are a 357-bed, full-service hospital offering inpatient and outpatient clinical services in medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, behavioral health and oncology.

In 2009, our nurses managed 30,446 inpatient admissions and 104,740 Emergency Department visits. As an acute care hospital, we are ranked third highest in admissions and we have the busiest Emergency Department of the 46 acute care hospitals in Maryland.

Philosophy of Nursing

The Philosophy of the Professional Nursing Staff Organization at Franklin Square Hospital Center is centered on the belief that each professional nurse accepts accountability for the quality of the care he/she provides, for continued professional development, and for the ethical and legal responsibilities involved in his/her practice.  Each professional nurse accepts responsibility for participating in decisions regarding nursing practice and commits to uphold the standards set by this organization, the nursing profession, and those bodies that regulate the practice of nursing in the state of Maryland.

We are organized by service lines and support a shared governance philosophy and work environment consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice. More then 850 RNs, LPNs, care associates and multifunctional technicians provide care across the continuum for our patients from Emergency Room, Critical Care, Intermediate Care, Inpatient, Outpatient/Clinics and Outreach Programs. We also employ nurse educators, clinical specialists, nurse practitioners and nurse midwives to provide consultation and resources to the direct care nurses.

Staff Satisfaction

We measure our nurses’ job satisfaction with the NDNQI RN Satisfaction tool, as well as through our annual employee satisfaction survey. One nurse,through our employee satisfaction survey, said, “the patient comes first in our hospital; we provide high quality patient care, and I would recommend Franklin Square Hospital Center to family and friends.”

We continue to achieve high nursing retention, low turnover, a vacancy rate in the single digits and high employee satisfaction. Our nurses’ tenure speaks for itself:
