Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines

The following are the American Cancer Society’s recommended early detection guidelines for women with average risk and without symptoms.

Age 20 to 34Age 35 to 39Age 40 and over

Monthly breast self-examination

Breast examination by a trained professional every 3 years

Monthly breast self-examination

Baseline mammogram for reference

Monthly breast self-examination

Annual breast examination by a trained professional

Annual mammogram
