The CyberKnife® Center at MedStar Franklin Square has assembled the area’s best team of CyberKnife specialists—including the country’s foremost leader in CyberKnife Physics, James E. Rodgers. These specialists will answer all your questions and concerns as you plan and undergo CyberKnife treatment.
Who will be on my treatment team?
While undergoing treatment at the CyberKnife Center at MedStar Franklin Square, you’ll be backed by an impressive team of specialists and health care professionals all dedicated to your health and well being. Your treatment team will include a radiation oncologist, physician specialist, physicist and other healthcare professionals, such as our CyberKnife Coordinator Linda Stark, to ensure your treatment runs smoothly and that you are comfortable.
MedStar Franklin Square’s core team of board-certified physicians specialized in CyberKnife therapy include a neurosurgeon, thoracic surgeon, interventional pulmonologist, surgical oncologist and radiation oncologists. All of our team members have extensive training on treating patients using CyberKnife, and participate in continuing education to keep up to date on the most recent advancements.
Radiation Oncologists

David J. Perry, MD
Chief, Radiation Oncology, Medical Director, CyberKnife Program
Dr. David Perry is chief and medical director of the Radiation Oncology Center at at MedStar Franklin Square and the CyberKnife Program. He is board-certified in radiation oncology and is credentialed in the use of CyberKnife. Dr. Perry completed his residency at the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan and completed a fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He has presented at many national and international meetings, and is a member of several professional societies including The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, The American Brachytherapy Society and the CyberKnife Society. Cengiz Aygun, MD
Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Cengiz Aygun is board-certified in radiation oncology and has received specialized training in the use of CyberKnife.
Dr. Aygun is published in numerous professional journals. He is chairman of the Baltimore Oncology Club and a member of several other medical societies, including the American College of Radiology and the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology. Khadijeh Zarkoob, MD,
Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Khadijeh Zarkoob is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist who is credentialed in the use of CyberKnife, and has practiced stereotactic radiosurgery since 1994.
Dr. Zarkoob completed her residency at the Medical College of Virginia in 1983, and she has served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Biophysics at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Zarkoob has published numerous articles in professional journals. She has presented at international meetings as well as to the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Radiology.

CyberKnife Surgeons

Hatem S. Abdo, MD,
Neurosurgeon
Dr. Hatem Abdo is chief of the Section of Neurosurgery, MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. Dr. Abdo is board-certified in neurosurgery and credentialed in the use of CyberKnife. He has used CyberKnife to treat patients with head, brain, neck, and spinal tumors (and vascular conditions) since 2003.
Dr. Abdo is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several other medical societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Maryland Neurological Society. He completed his residency in general surgery and neurological surgery at the University of Maryland Medical School.

Daniel P. Harley, MD, FACS
Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. Daniel Harley is director of The Thoracic Cancer Center at MedStar Franklin Square and chief of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center's Section of Thoracic Surgery. He is board-certified in thoracic surgery and has received specialized training in the use of CyberKnife.
Dr. Harley has served on the faculties of the Cornell and UCLA schools of medicine and as associate chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center. He completed residencies in surgery at North Shore University Hospital, Cornell, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital, NY. His residencies in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery were completed at USC-affiliated hospitals

William S. Krimsky, MD,
Interventional Pulmonologist
Dr. William Krimsky is board-certified in internal medicine and board-certified in pulmonary and critical care medicine. His experience includes a broad spectrum of advanced procedures, including autofluorescence bronchoscopy, advanced interventions in airway and pleural space, endobronchial and endoscopic ultrasound, superDimensionTM - and the use of CyberKnife.
Dr. Krimsky serves as an assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is a frequent presenter at national medical conferences. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, New Hampshire, and was a visiting fellow in interventional pulmonology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Edward C. McCarron, MD
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Edward McCarron is board certified in general surgery and is credentialed in the use of CyberKnife. He also completed a fellowship in surgical oncology. Dr. McCarron specializes in the treatment of melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, gastrointestinal tumors, and head and neck tumors.
Lynne A. Skaryak, MD
Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. Lynne Skaryak is a board certified general and thoracic surgeon who has specialized training and extensive experience treating patients with the CyberKnife. She attended Duke University Medical School where she completed residencies in both general and cardiothoracic surgery. She has served as a clinical instructor for more than nine years training other surgeons on the use of the CyberKnife in treating thoracic tumors. She has presented multiple presentations on the use of stereotactic radiosurgery in thoracic oncology.

John L. Zapas, MD, FACS
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. John Zapas is director of The Center for Surgical Oncology at MedStar Franklin Square and principal investigator of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project for the Baltimore/Washington D.C. region.
He is board-certified in general surgery and completed a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He has received specialized training in the use of CyberKnife. Dr. Zapas is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of several other medical societies. He is an invited speaker at local and national medical conferences and is published in professional journals. He completed a surgical residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center before completing his NCI fellowship in surgical oncology.
Cyberknife Team Support Staff

Linda J. Hall, RTT
Chief CyberKnife Therapist
Linda Hall is the chief radiation oncology therapist for The CyberKnife Center at MedStar Franklin Square. She is board-certified in radiology and in radiation oncology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Ms. Hall completed a residency program in radiation oncology at the University of Maryland Hospital. She has more than 20 years of experience working with cancer patients.

James E. Rodgers, PhD
Director of CyberKnife Physics
James Rodgers is certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics and is a fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. Before joining The CyberKnife Center at MedStar Franklin Square, Dr. Rodgers was lead physicist for the CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery program at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Rodgers also served for 25 years as associate professor of radiation medicine and chief of medical physics at Georgetown University's School of Medicine. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and more than 70 abstracts and presentations in the fields of medical and health physics. He is an invited speaker at national and international meetings. He earned his doctorate in physics at the University of California at Riverside and trained in medical physics at Tufts New England Medical Center under a National Cancer Institute postdoctoral fellowship.

Linda D. Stark, PA-C
CyberKnife Center Coordinator
Linda Stark is the clinical program coordinator for The CyberKnife Center at MedStar Franklin Square. She is a board-certified physician assistant and has worked with cancer patients and their families for more than 20 years.
Ms. Stark was awarded an AA degree from Essex Community College where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. As clinical program coordinator, she helps patients by scheduling their CyberKnife appointments and by answering questions about their treatment. To contact Linda Stark, please call 443.777.8822.
