June 29, 2009 (Baltimore, MD)—Franklin Square Hospital Center received notification that the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care (DFMC), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Maryland, has awarded Franklin Square the 2009 Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award for Quality Improvement. This award recognizes individual hospital performance improvement in the four national inpatient clinical areas – Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Surgical Care Improvement and Pneumonia. To merit the award, hospitals must meet or exceed the following criteria and requirements:

1. Improve individual performance measure rate to 90 percent or above on 11 required measures.
2. Sustain the improvement for at least three consecutive quarters.

“This is exciting news for Franklin Square and all of MedStar,” says Carl Schindelar, Franklin Square Hospital Center president. “Our staff and physicians have worked diligently on these quality measures and this is a great recognition for their commitment.”

Delmarva representatives will come to Franklin Square to present Schindelar and the hospital’s Board of Directors with the award plaque on June 30, 2009 at 8 a.m. in the Kotzen Auditorium.
