Franklin Square Names Its 2010 Nurse of the Year 05/24/2010

May 21, 2010 (Baltimore, MD) – Franklin Square Hospital Center has named Donna Miller, CMSRN, RN, its 2010 Nurse of the Year. Donna’s election for this honor was announced during the hospital’s annual Nursing Awards Presentation held during National Nurses Week on May 12—Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Donna, a resident of Rosedale, Maryland, has worked as a Med/Surg nurse at Franklin Square since 2000. She has also served as a preceptor, mentor, charge nurse and resource nurse on her unit, 2SA. She was nominated for the Nurse of the Year award by a colleague whom Donna mentored when the colleague came to the unit as a new nurse, and whom through years Donna has continued to encourage, inspire and challenge. “She has always been a caring, kind heart to those who have crossed paths with her and I find that personally she is just as wonderful as she is professionally,” the colleague said, further describing Donna as passionate, respected, trusted and resourceful. Each year, Franklin Square honors a nurse in each of its service lines as well as an advanced practice nurse, distinguished nurse in a support role and an outstanding nurse leader. From this group of honorees, one outstanding nurse is chosen as Nurse of the Year.
