Franklin Square Nurses Awarded Grant to study Pressure Ulcer Education
05/24/2010

Lorela Saavedra, MAN, PCCN, CMSRN, primary investigator, and Ruth Iliuta, RN, CNS, BC, WOCN, and Elizabeth Jesada, MS, CRNP, CWON, subinvestigators, were awarded a $2500 research grant from the National Nursing Staff Development Organization to conduct their research study titled: “Comparison of Web-based versus Traditional Education for Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment, Staging and Measurement.”

This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a computer-based learning program (CBL) compared to traditional classroom lecture (TCL) in teaching the use of the Braden Scale and the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) criteria. The study addresses a gap in the literature by evaluating CBL versus TCL, long term knowledge retention and application to nursing practice.
