Franklin Square Announces Leadership Appointments

December 13, 2011 (Baltimore, MD)—Franklin Square Hospital Center is pleased to welcome the following individuals to its leadership team:

Leslie SmallsLeslie Smalls has been appointed to the newly created position of Assistant Vice President for Ambulatory Physician Practices and Business Development. She comes to Franklin Square from Emblem Health, a New York based regional managed care plan, where she served as Director of Group Practice Management. In her new role with Franklin Square, Ms. Smalls will assist with physician practice acquisition, outreach efforts to community physicians in strengthening the hospital’s alignment and clinical integration strategies, and enhancing the operational, financial, quality, and service performance of Franklin Square’s ambulatory practices.

Kim WeltonKim Welton has been appointed Senior Director of Physician Relations. She comes to Franklin Square from Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Chicago, where she held the positions of Physician Liaison, Recruiter, and Medical Staff Manager. In her new role with Franklin Square, Ms. Welton will work closely on relationships with current medical staff, including education, recruitment, on-boarding and orientation of physicians new to the medical staff, as well as marketing of hospital services and strategic initiatives.


Stephen Noga, PhD, MDStephen Noga, PhD, MD, will assume the role of Chief of Medical Oncology in January 2012. He succeeds William Waterfield, MD, who will be retiring in March 2012. Dr. Noga joined Franklin Square in 2010 as Chief of Hematology. He specializes in blood disorders such as lymphoma, leukemia and multiple myeloma. In addition to merging these two roles, Dr. Noga will also assume the role of Medical Director of the Inpatient Oncology Service at Franklin Square.

Joanne McAuliffe, RN, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President for Oncology Services. In this expanded role, she will be responsible for overall operational and administrative management of both inpatient and ambulatory cancer care. She will also work in conjunction with the Oncology Service Line Medical Director, William McGuire, to execute the strategy for the oncology program.
